This page is all about the unique traits and origins of the saltwater snail Haminoea Taylorae. Very little is known about these marine snails and I want to share everything I have learned and experienced since finding them. These snails are unlike anything I have seen. You won't find them in your local saltwater fish store. They are very unique, beautiful and fascinating to watch.
When startled, they will pull their head and neck in and form the shape of a ball. They seam to float through the water like a Ballon being tossed around. They have a layer of a type of slime covering their body. As the saying goes "slippery when wet" . When these little guys are curled up they will slip right through your fingers.
When not eating, they like to bury in the sand or gravel to rest. Be very careful when cleaning or arranging your aquarium. These unique little snails have another way to protect themselves. They seem to be able to control the amount of slime covering their body. They can produce extra slime which enables the sand or gravel to totally encase them. I have cleaned their tank and very thoroughly searched the gravel small amounts at a time and as the pan of gravel sat, every day I would see another snail, then another, then two more. This went on for over a week. They have definitely mastered a very successful disguise.
Every breeding tank is the same. These snails will eat all the cyano first. They eat other algea but they definetly prefer the red siime.
